Summer means different things depending on your age.

When you’re a kid, summer is all about staying outside until the streetlights come on.

When you’re an adult, it’s mowing the lawn, paying for vacations, and wondering why everything costs so much.

When you’re a senior? Well… summer becomes a full-contact sport!

You’ll hear things like:

🌞 “It’s too hot to go outside.”
❄ “The air conditioner is too cold.”
🦟 “The mosquitoes love me.”
🌸 “The pollen is trying to kill me.”
🍦”I shouldn’t eat ice cream… but one little bowl won’t hurt.”

And don’t forget the daily ritual of checking the weather every 30 minutes—just in case the forecast has changed by one degree!

Many older adults also become experts at finding the coolest seat in the house, carefully watering the tomatoes before the sun comes up, and reminding everyone that “it wasn’t this hot when I was growing up.”

Despite the complaints (which are often delivered with a smile), summer is also a wonderful time to enjoy the little things—a glass of lemonade on the porch, visits from grandchildren, backyard barbecues, fresh peaches, blooming flowers, and longer evenings spent with family and friends.

So whether you’re soaking up a little sunshine, relaxing in the shade, or proudly carrying a sweater into an air-conditioned restaurant “just in case,” remember to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and enjoy the season.

After all, growing older means you’ve earned the right to complain about the weather… and then enjoy every minute of it anyway!
